It was a second successive defeat following their disappointing FA Cup exit at Frimley Green by the same score in midweek.

The Reds' boss pulled no punches after their lacklustre display.

'We were total rubbish,' he fumed.

'If we had been beaten by three or four goals we couldn't have complained.

'We didn't look interested, created nothing and failed to compete.

'I don't know what was up with them.

'We could still be there now without scoring and were very naive in our defending.

'I didn't like watching it and I am the manager, so goodness knows what the supporters thought.'

The only goal arrived in the 10th minute when a long ball over the top caught the Fareham defence flat-footed.

Speedy striker Flavio Tavarez outpaced Ashley Tattersall and slotted the ball low into the corner of the net.

It needed two last ditch clearances from Gary Moody and Tattersall, plus the woodwork, to prevent the visitors falling further behind before half-time.

Lewis Stockford set up the Reds’ best chance of the first period but Josh Benfield's shot was blocked by the keeper.

There was little improvement after the break with the Fareham goal enduring a number of further narrow escapes.

'It was a poor day for us,' said Stiles.

'We need players in the team who will give it their all.

'For one or two this should be a reality check because they don't deserve to be in the team.

'There are a couple of players pushing to get their chance in the side and they will after this.

'I don't care even if it is against AFC Portchester on Tuesday.'

Fareham Town: Kempson; Cooper, Bartlett-Scott, Tattersall, Wilcox, Moody, Davis (Settle 64), Robbins, Benfield J, Stockford (Benfield C 64), Slade (Austin).
