But Yakubu cuts a very different picture in 2min 20secs video posted on YouTube by a fan of his new club, Coventry City.

The clip showing him standing on the edge of the centre circle barely moving went viral - but many viewers were unaware of the reason behind the 34-year-old’s static performance.

He is due to have a scan to find out the full extent of a hamstring tear that brought him to a standstill in the closing stages of Saturday’s match at the Ricoh Arena as the struggling Sky Blues slid to a 3-1 defeat by Swindon Town.

Having come on as a substitute 20 minutes from time, he laid on Coventry’s goal but then suffered the injury.

With Coventry having already used all three subs he was asked to stay on, but slowed to a near standstill in the dying minutes of the game.

Yakubu scored 36 goals in 78 appearances for Pompey between 2003-05.
