Weather woe means Rams face two fights

Struggling Hanwell Town are the visitors to Love Lane (3pm) but the biggest thing that stands in Petersfield’s way at the weekend is the weather.

This week’s heavy downpours left the playing surface covered in water on Wednesday afternoon – despite the infamous slope on the Love Lane pitch.

Rams officials are hopeful the game will go ahead, so long as no more bad weather arrives before kick-off time.

Manager Ian Saunders said: ‘We had a look at the pitch on Wednesday and it wasn’t looking very good – there were puddles of water everywhere across the whole surface.

‘It will just be a case now of how much dry weather we have between now and kick-off.

‘Dry but windy conditions would be ideal to help dry out the playing surface.

‘We want to get the game on as we are on a great run of form at the moment and we want to keep pushing forward in the league.

‘We will know where we are in the morning – we will have to take a look at the pitch and see what can be done from there.’

The Rams haven’t played a home game since December 19 but they are currently on a run of five wins in a row and are keen to keep that winning momentum going against a side who currently sit fourth from bottom in the table.

Petersfield will be hoping for a repeat of some aspects of the last meeting between the two sides when they last met in November.

The Rams raced into a 2-0 lead by half time but were eventually pegged back to hold on for a 2-2 draw.

‘Hanwell are struggling near the bottom of the table so this should be a game where we look to pick up three points from,’ added Saunders.

‘But we know from the last game that they can be a better team than their league position suggests.

‘We won’t be taking them lightly and we will need to continue the strong form we have shown in recent weeks to get the three points.’
