Wicor ace Woods leads the way on the opening day of the new Portsmouth Sunday League season

Simon Woods lifted the curtain on a new Portsmouth Sunday League season with a four-goal haul.

The Wicor Mill Royals striker helped his side beat Cross Keys Athletic Reserves 8-5 in Division 4 with Joe Waterman (2), Ben Kerr and Calum Latham also netting.

Louis White (2), James Wells, Adam Cannaby and Ben Oliver replied.

In all, there were 37 goals in the five fourth tier games on the opening weekend of 2020/21.

Zak Willett struck his second treble in as many days as Southsea United beat Saturn Royale.

On the Saturday he had celebrated his first Hampshire Premier League start for Paulsgrove by netting three in an 8-1 win at Stockbridge.

The following morning his hat-trick, plus a strike from Sam Emeny, gave Southsea a 4-0 victory.

Connor Smith struck a hat-trick as Cosham Trades pipped AFC Lakeside Refit 6-5.

Taylor Hanson, Rob Grudinskis and Ben Mogridge made up the half-dozen haul with Jamie Ford (3) and Bradley Gill (2) replying.

Co-op Dragons beat AC Copnor 3-2 with goals from Drew Hathi, Ethan Hathi and David Mellor. Bobby Read and Oliver Warren replied.

Fratton Trades (Jay Bibby, Jake Hill) drew 2-2 with Freehouse A (Connor Higgs and Lewis Clarke).

Brodie Spencer netted the only goal as Seagull defeated Portsbridge in a hard-fought Division 2 clash.

FreeHouse beat AFC Portchester Reserves 4-2 with Jack Davies, Andy Oliver, Billy Lavin and Luke Baker on target. Josh Milroy and Lewy Holie replied.

Last season’s runaway Division 3 winners AFC Leigh Park continued where they left off with a 4-2 victory over Wheelwright Old Boys. Jesse-Lee Pickett (3) and Charlie Moore got the goals.
