Wymering boss targeting county cup win over Harvest Home rather than beating the Mid-Solent title favourites in the league

Harvest have rattled off 15 successive Mid-Solent League and cup wins in 2019/20.

But they have not yet played Wymering, who were the last team to beat them in March 2019.

This weekend the teams clash in the quarter finals of the Hampshire Vase, and the following Saturday they meet in the league.

And Wymering boss Paul Critchett is in no doubt which of the two games he would prefer to win.

‘Definitely the cup one,’ he said.

‘We’ve never won a Hampshire cup before. Whatever level it’s at, a Hampshire cup is a good cup to win.’

Wymering are in hot form themselves, having rattled off seven straight league and cup victories - scoring 63 goals in the process and conceding just nine (including five in a 17-5 league win against Cowplain).

Critchett is hoping striker Brad White can continue his superb form.

Last week’s four-goal haul in a Len Day Cup win against Carberry took his season tally to 31 - including 10 in his last two outings.

‘Brad seems to have got his appetite back,’ said Critchett. ‘Last season he took a long break from playing football.’

Wymering’s former Baffins Milton defender Dan Audin is unavailable due to watching Pompey v Sunderland.

Harvest, meanwhile, welcome back top scorer Jake Daniels from suspension as they bid to retain the trophy they won last season.

FC Strawberry saw their quadruple dream ended last weekend when they lost 3-1 to Harvest in the Len Day Cup quarter-finals.

But they can reach the semi-finals of the Hampshire Vase if they beat visiting Newport IoW Reserves this weekend.

Portchester Rovers travel to Aldershot to face Letef for a place in the Hampshire Plate semi-finals.

Rovers have belted 16 goals in their two ties so far - hammering Overton Reserves 9-3 and Fordingbridge Turks 7-3.
