Gregory wins Georgia Cup ahead of Masters bow

The British Amateur champion, from Corhampton Golf Club, lifted the prestigious title after a play-off victory over his American counterpart, Curtis Luck.

The Georgia Cup is an annual event that brings together the reigning United States and British Amateur champions ahead of the Masters.

Gregory flew out to the USA at the weekend as he fine-tunes his preparations for Augusta, which begins next week.

And he proved to be in good shape as he joined the likes of Matt Kuchar and Sergio Garcia in lifting the crown played for at The Golf Club of Georgia.

The 22-year-old was three-under for his matchplay encounter with Luck.

Birdies at holes two, eight, 13 and 15 contributed to a fine round,

But it wasn’t until the 17th when he took the lead in the match for the first time, moving to one-up with one to play.

A six on the last – Gregory’s only bogey on the day – handed Luck a lifeline.

However, in the first extra tie hole, the English international’s par five was enough to claim overal victory, with Luck registering a six.

Gregory’s Masters bid begins next Wednesday with the annual par-three event at Augusta.
