County champions fly flag for Portsmouth

A brilliant show from Portsmouth gymnasts saw them land five individual titles from the Hampshire levels competition.

The women's artistic gymnasts were in brilliant form adding many apparatus titles and medals.

Portsmouth Gymnastics Club (PGC) director of gymnastics Sam Maggs praised the squad.

She said: '˜The gymnasts competed extremely well across two weekends of gymnastics showcasing PGCs beautiful lines and carefully choreographed routines.'

Lexie Mullins brought home the FIG Challenge Junior title after a clean performance on all apparatus, followed by Anna Bridge in second and Ruby Savage third.

In level two Kirsten Jonker, who is now in the GB performance pathway squad, won the overall title. 

Hailey Walker became Hampshire level three champion and Julia Hornik level four champion followed by Kyla Stanford in third overall and Paula Capas next.

In level five the standard was high and PGC gymnast Jade Olayemi came fourth overall, but was a vault and floor medallist.

Team-mates Ella Morris, Evie Bessey and Alyssa Webb also.

In out of age level five Lily Dowdell came second overall with team-mate Mikayla Lawes in third. In level three (out of age) Sienna Chantry-Jowett was the champion with Emily Tait in third place. Poppy McBride was first on floor.

In the pre level five competition PGC gymnasts took overall apparatus medals. Matilda Rogers won bars and floor with second position going to Vida Pericard who won gold on the beam, as Ida Eyre took second, with Matilda Rogers in third.

Overall it was a very good competition for PGC.
