Solent & Gosport Devils’ Dragons team celebrated glory at the recent Swindon Hockey Academy under-nine tournament.
The talented youngsters saw off competition from a host of top teams to claim victory against their hosts in a tense final that went to a sudden death penalty shootout.
Despite having several members missing for the event, the Dragons impressed from the opening game and topped their pool after victories against Oxford (8-0) and Basingstoke (5-1), following a 6-6 draw with Swindon.
A 3-1 victory over Bracknell followed in the quarter-finals, before they disposed of Basingstoke again in the semi-finals – this time thanks to a 5-0 winning margin.
Hosts Swindon lay in wait in the final. And with the teams tied at 3-3 at the end of normal time, penalty shots were required to decide the winners.
And it was the on-fire Dragons who kept their cool, after they claimed the title in sudden death.
