Lee too hot to handle for Red DevilsÂ

Lee-on-the-Solent opened their Palmerston Cup account with a 52-48 victory over Eastleigh Red Devils.Â

The game was a close affair, with the first rink between Pete Gentry (Lee skip) and Robby Bines (Eastleigh skip) setting the tone. 

Lee got off to a good start and took a 18-9 lead after 12 ends.

Eastleigh pulled shots back but Gentry's side held on for a convincing 22-16 win.

Martin Ellis (Lee skip) and Mike Barrett (Eastleigh skip) fought out a very close and exciting second rink.

No more than two shots separated them throughout the game '“  other than on the 15th end.

Ellis's team dropped a clumsy five shots, only to return to a two-shot deficit on the next end, which resulted in Barrett's side clinching a 15-13 success.

On the third rink, Dave Heather Lee outfit and Derrick Walker's Eastleigh team couldn't be separated.

They were all square after 12 ends and eventually finished 17-17, ensuring Lee-on-the-Solent took the overall victory.

Lee clinched nine points, while Eastleigh collected three.

Meanwhile, Fareham Blue fell to a 55-46 loss against Prieire De Sion.

However, it was Fareham who got off to a flying start and took a 21-12 lead after six ends.

Dave Holland's team narrowly stayed ahead throughout the first rink to defeat Adrian Snook's Prieire De Sion side 18-14.

On the second rink, between Richard Horler (Fareham skip) and Roly Bloy (Prieire De Sion skip), the latter's outfit slowly pulled away to finish 24-14 winners.

Keith Fleming's Fareham team and Arthur Newland's Prieire De Sion outfit had a nip-and-tuck battle, but it was Newland's troops who grabbed a 18-14 success.

Fareham claimed two points from the clash while Prieire De Sion took 10.Â
