Defending champions back on track at Mallory Park

The Quattro Plant Cool Kawasaki team celebrated a double success at Mallory Park.

It lifted them from second in the championship after a disappointing weekend at Thruxton to first with a 33-point lead.

The sixth round of the championship took centre stage at the 60th anniversary celebration of the Mallory Park circuit.

In near perfect conditions Stevens, from Portsmouth, and his Dover-based passenger Charlwood took fourth place on the grid as a large crowd watched on at the Leicestershire circuit.

Both races took place on Sunday and the defending champions had a great fight with Ben Holland and Lee Watson and brothers Ben and Birchall on their very fast 600 machine which suits this very twisty circuit.

An incident saw the race stopped on lap four with the Quattro team in second place from Holland and Watson.

The restart saw them take the lead and take the chequered flag with Holland and Watson second and Chris Walker and Ashley Hawes in third.

In race two they started well again and were 4.7 seconds ahead of Holland and Watson and Chris Walker and Ashley Hawes when the race was stopped and declared on lap 12 due to an incident between two other sidecars.

Stevens said: ‘We needed to get back to winning ways and I’m just thrilled how we did it. Thanks to all the team.’

The next round is at Donington Park from Friday, September 16.

This will also have a round of the world sidecar championship where the British teams can compete against the best in the world.
