Netstars make instant impact with title glory

The ladies met six months ago and decided to form the team.

Under careful captaincy by Emma McDermott, they have enjoyed success ever since – at tournaments and now in their first league placing.

Netstars player Hollie Toomer says the girls are now relishing the thought of the new challenges division two will bring.

Second spot in the division was fiercely-contested.

It was Wildcats that took it with a 24-15 final-game success over Victor Stewart II.

Wildcats shooter Sasha Chamberlain, who is still only a junior, has impressed and has a bright future.

Laura Ashley, for Victor Stewart II, was voted as oppositions’ player.

With all to play for in division two, Cams Commotion beat sister team Cams Confusion 16-7.

Commotion led throughout, getting stronger towards the last quarter.

Bounties had their work cut out with Fareham Fireflys Lilac, eventually winning 19-12.

But the young Fireflys put in a hard push in the final quarter.

Honour King, for Bounties, took players’ player.

One Com are having a great second half of the season and were only just beaten 15-12 by Cookies. Sam White, for One Com, shone in defence.

Fareham Flyers beat Oceans 15-13 but it was the goal-attack for Oceans, Alex Hughes, who nearly changed the game with her court positioning, accurate passes and interceptions.

Her shooting was also on top form as she took the ball all the way.

In division one, the battle for the top two places is hotting up.

Warriors were not taking any prisoners as they beat Shooting Stars 27-8.

Stars captain Sarah Kerley acknowledged the defeat with style by praising the opposition.

However, Warriors need to look out as these youngsters are improving every game.

Hughes & King only just missed out on a vital four points when they lost 12-11 to Cams Chaos.

Back to Netball coach Kelly Wallis, playing for Hughes, defended like a professional but she came under intense pressure – with great passing from Chaos centre Maggie Barnes.

And it worked as they got their first win of the season with a massive 33-11 success against Tornadoes.

The top-of-the-table clash between Swanmore and Cams Hill School ended 14-14.
