New castle event is a big hit for Clark

The course took the participants around Portchester Castle, before heading along the waterside coastal path and the Fareham Creek trail.

Upon reaching Upper Wharf, in Fareham, via Cams Mill and Bath Lane Rec, the field of 150, including one runner from the USA, headed back along a shorter route, via Cams Hill School.

First home, in a time of 1hr 01min 38sec was Neil Phipps, from Waterlooville.

The first lady across the line was Victoria Rugge, from Locks Heath, in a time of 1hr 18min 58sec.

It was the first event of 2017 for local company Rural Running, who have The Rowans Hospice as their charity partner for 2017.

Event organiser Jeff Clark said: ‘It was a great event, with a very different course with something for everyone.’

Debbie Pentland, of Portsmouth Joggers, enjoyed the race, while Dawn Clark said: ‘It was one of the friendliest events I’ve ever taken part in.’

Charlotte Grant, from Fareham, added: ‘I was made really welcome, I loved the event.’

Next up for Clark and his Rural Running team, is the Knowle Village Spring 10k on Sunday, March 19.

They are also hosting the Remembrance Day 10k, starting in Fort Nelson.

This event is in support of The Royal British Legion and other forces charities at 11.02am, on Saturday, November 11.

Meanwhile, Fareham Crusaders are preparing to host their now annual Pi(e) run once again.

It’s 3.14 miles, with a £3.14 entry fee.

The event takes place on Tuesday, March 14.
