It was sent to the paper by John Porter of Waterlooville, who reveals it is a picture of the Trades Union Cricket Club taken in 1932.

John asks: ‘What was the cup? Where did the team play? Are they still in existence? Are there any records or archive of the period?

‘My particular interest is that the player in the front row, far right, is my father Jack Porter.

‘He bowled left arm spin I believe.

‘He passed away when I was a baby and I have no information as to him or the team.’

John was also pleased to see a Hampshire team picture taken at Burnaby Road in 1969 which was featured in a copy of The News last month.

‘It reminded me of a time when I was supposed to be working on the roof of the Nuffield Officers Club, now Portsmouth University, which overlooked the cricket ground,’ he recalled.

‘On hearing the sound of loud cheering I decided to have a little look at the game.

‘It was my good luck to see Roy Marshall at his best, he was hitting everything that came his way.

‘He was going down the pitch by a yard or two, this was at time when helmets were not used and Roy only wore everyday spectacles.

‘I was only going to look for a moment but it got to lunchtime and very little work was done that morning!’

If anyone has any details about the Trades Union CC, please email [email protected] and we will pass it on to John.
