Chris Williams records personal best time on his way to ending long wait at Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun

Chris Williams ended a long wait at the latest Lee-on-the-Solent parkrun.

The Gosport Road Runners member secured top spot for the first time in 140 attempts at the event.

Never before in 139 visits had Williams been first home prior to his personal best time of 18:34 at Lee-on-the-Solent.

He crossed the finish line 14 seconds faster than second-placed finisher Darren Langridge.

It was an enthralling battle between three runners for the right to finish second, third and fourth.

Langridge edged it coming home after Williams (18:48) while Thom Hammond and Steven Furniss both completed the course in a time of 18:49.

Stubbington Green Runners member Amie Morgan was the first female to make it home.

In her 199th parkrun event, she completed the course in a time of 22:35.

n Matthew Brown’s fine run at the Fareham parkrun continued.

He came home first for the seventh time in his previous eight visits to the course (18:16).

Thomas Wallace came home just two seconds after the Romsey Road Runners member while Andy Turner was third in his 49th parkrun (18:35).

He just edged out Gosport Road Runners’ Andy Newnham, who finished fourth (18:36).

n Young gun Josh Goldfinch led the way in the Whiteley parkrun.

The 15-17 age group category runner was first home in the event (17:24).

Dave Henson of Hedge End Running Club was next across the line (18:25).

Third-placed finisher Alexander Roberts recorded a new personal best time of 18:42.

Hedge End Running Club’s Joanne Labram was the first female to make it home (21:19).
