Five star Samuel wins again in Waterlooville

Samuel Laxton has now the Junior Snooker Wednesday League title five times

The 14-year-old has opened up an unassailable 21-point lead over defending champion Owen Jenkins with one of the 20 weeks remaining.

But the race for the Division 2 title is another matter entirely.

Current table-topper George Laxton has a three-frame advantage over Tyler Mack. Finn Kirby and Ryan Wilson are both two points further back.

Three days earlier, Samuel Laxton won three of his four matches to progress to the knockout on the Under-20 Regional Development Tour South at Jesters Snooker Club, Swindon.

He responded in the best possible way to a 2-0 defeat in his opening match to Steven Hughes, who has won promotion to the national under-21 circuit.

Laxton beat O’Shay Scott and Ronnie Sullivan, both 2-1 from 1-0 down, and Mason Wilson 2-0.

His excellent run ended in a 2-1 quarter-final defeat by Londoner Aristos Pampouris.

World Snooker coach Tim Dunkley, who runs the junior leagues at the sports bar, said: ‘As Samuel again proved in Swindon, he can compete at this standard.

‘His never-say-die attitude and ability to win snooker matches against the odds is legendary.’

Ryan Kneller edged Mack on the head-to-head rule to take the honours in the first group of the Monday Junior Snooker League.

Kneller moved up to fourth in Division 1. Jenkins takes a two-frame lead at the top.

Division 3 leader Rhys Pearce increased his highest break to 16 against Elodie Hall.

Switching cue sports, Division 1 leader Pearce won ten of his 12 matches in the Junior Pool League.

Keira Jackson and Tyler Rodgers were joint second in the round-robin group with seven wins each.
