A patient and probing passing move ended with Caleb Rowland equalising, before Ball grabbed his brace.
After Fareham reduced the arrears, Ryan Rochester made it 4-2 with virtually the last touch of the first half.

Portsmouth Vets faced Havant with a central defence pairing of Colin Metcalf and Andy Arnell.
