Anything but a win against city rivals US Portsmouth 2nds at Lord Admiral Nelson School would have seen the latter clinch the championship.

But Portsmouth claimed a 2-0 victory to move level on points with USP, though with an inferior goal difference.

USP will win their third title in four seasons if they beat lowly Fareham 8ths this weekend - unless Portsmouth 4ths can overcome Petersfield 3rds by five or more goals than USP win by.

If both teams were to finish level on points and goal difference, Portsmouth 4ths would take the title by virtue of having scored more goals.

Portsmouth took the lead midway through the first half through Alan Ball.

The home side’s high press was rewarded when Caleb Rowland won the ball in the attacking third and drove into the D and fired in a second before half-time

Good defensive work and some great saves from Portsmouth goalkeeper and man of the match Jack Hargreaves ensured there were no further goals.

Portsmouth 3rds boasted two hat-trick heroes as they claimed a third successive Hampshire Division 5 success.

Paul Barnes and David Johns both struck three times in a 7-0 caning of second-bottom Salisbury 3rds.

Barnes opened the scoring early on before James Payne doubled the lead from close range.

Johns made it 3-0 from an Owen Barnes pass before a green card for Tristan Barnes saw Portsmouth temporarily reduced to 10 men.

Once numerical parity had been restored, Paul Barnes and Johns netted again for a 5-0 interval advantage.

Paul Barnes was the first player to complete a hat-trick after the break and man of the match Johns followed his example late on.

Portsmouth aim for another victory at Havant 5ths this weekend.

Man of the match Stu Avery fired a late leveller to give fourth-placed Portsmouth a 3-3 draw after they had trailed 3-1.

With three matches remaining, they are just two points adrift of second-placed Old Cranleighans - though the latter have a far better goal difference.

Portsmouth uncharacteristically sat back early on and, despite creating opportunities, slipped two goals behind.

Following stern words at half time from coach Chris Wimshurst, Portsmouth started the second half strongly with Rob Hunt pulling a goal back.

Surrey, though, went up the other end and restored their two-goal lead.

Pete Hayward gave Portsmouth some late hope when he struck from a penalty corner.

Completing the fightback, Avery rounded the keeper and flicked a shot high into the net to claim what could be a valuable point.

Portsmouth 2nds are two points above the bottom three in Hampshire Division 3 following a 1-1 draw at Aldershot & Farnham 2nds.

Aldershot started strongly but, after a goalless first half, it was Portsmouth who initially looked the stronger side.

A defensive error saw the hosts take the lead, only for Alex Williams to level late on.
