Six of the best against Phoenix North End B takes Admiral Drake B closer to title dream

Admiral Drake B put themselves on the brink of winning the Portsmouth Winter League Division 1 title as they dispatched Phoenix North End B 6-3.

Mike Symes threw an 18-darter as he won the opener for Drake but Jamie Stewart and Lee Smith struck back for Phoenix.

Barry Stevens drew Drake level before Adam Lipscombe – 11-dart leg – and Danny Smith – 16-darter – put them 4-2 up.

Lloyd Walker pulled a set back for Phoenix before a pair of 18-darters and 180 from Justin Bradshaw bagged the points for Drake.

James Brooker took the final set with Drake needing a redraw.

The Druids Arms B team kept alive their hopes of avoiding relegation from Division 2 as they came from behind

to triumph 5-4 over the George & Dragon.

George took a 2-1 lead courtesy of Allen Campbell and Gareth Young after Darren Maplesden took the opener.

Ray Marsh restored parity for the Druids but the George edged back in front thanks to Liam Emery.

Mark Pearce was on the mark for the Druids before Grant McKnight put George one set from victory.

It was to no avail, though, as Ray Holland and Graham Clow won the remaining ties to take the Druids to victory.

Fountain A clinched the Division 2 title with Colin McKean hitting a 107 finish to help them beat Phoenix North End C 5-4.

Old House at Home kept themselves in the Division 3 promotion race with a 6-3 triumph over the Compass Rose.

The Old House went 3-1 up with sets from Dale Adams, Nathan Barlow and Peter Neale.

Andy Deacon won Compass’ second before Kevin and Jack Gamblin bagged the points for the Old House.

Neither side had a full team, meaning the last two sets involved redraws with Michael Angell winning a consolation for Compass and Jack Hastie claiming set number six for the Old House.

Mermaid B sit two points clear at the top of Division 4 after triumphing 5-4 over Stag A.

Mick Neilson and Ian Neilson – 122 game shot – gave the Stag a 2-1 lead as they took legs either side of Jamie Webb's win.

Mermaid then took control with Ian Ogilvie, Mark Morgan and Terry Griffiths giving them a commanding advantage.

Tom Jeffery pulled a leg back for the Stag before Martin Simmons clinched the match in the penultimate clash.

The Stag were a player short but won the last leg with a redraw for David Place senior.

Fawcett Inn B enjoyed a 6-3 victory over Admiral Drake A in Division 5.

Roger Young and James Cheesman put Fawcett 2-0 up before Chris Potter got Drake off the mark.

Fawcett doubled their tally through Tim Farmer and Sam Jones but Richard Linford was on hand to win the next leg and keep his side in the match.

Being short of players, Fawcett needed redraws for the remaining clashes with Jones and Farmer returning to the oche to give them an unassailable lead.

Gary Bullet took the last leg as a consolation for Drake.

Paul La Roche and David Smith (both Jolly Taxpayer C) threw 18-dart legs, with the latter hitting 180,

while Alex Hood (Oyster House A) checked-out on 100.

Stan Brimecome senior (Phoenix North End A) fired in two maximums and there were also maximums from Steve

Ketchen (Lord Chichester A), Lee O’Donovan (Jolly Taxpayer C) and John Madgwick (Lord Chichester B).

Simon Whitlock continued his magnificent form as he claimed top spot for the fourth consecutive week.

The Wizard won the final 4-2 against Buster Turner having beaten Rob Collins 4-1 in the semi-final and Johnny

Kinsella 4-3 in the last eight.

Finalist Turner enjoyed a 4-3 quarter-final win over Adam Lipscombe before dispatching Bob Crawley 4-1 in the last four.

Dan Eade won the plate contest, beating Charlie Hymers into runners-up place while Lee Smith and

Lloyd Walker were the losing semi-finalists.

Whitlock hit nine maximums, Dan Carter notched an 11-darter and Terry Archer checked-out on 150.
