Table-toppers Petersfield deliver again... Locksheath Pumas pounce to make it eight without defeat

The visitors started strongly and had opened up an 19-point lead in the first quarter with tries from wing Phil Ryan, centre Andy Wood and Andy Barnes.

Wood notched a second try on 38 minutes before the home side got on the scoresheet just before the break.

Nick Blumlein relieved some pressure on Field with a well taken penalty to make the score 29-5.

Millbrook then crossed from short range to pull it back to 29-10.

Debutant Fin Sloan came off the bench and cut through the Millbrook defence to put Field further ahead before Ryan Wilkie got the final try.

Petersfield senior coach Jim Pearce said: ‘We knew this would be a tough fixture - and so it proved.

n Locksheath Pumas extended their unbeaten run to eight games with a hard-fought 18-11 Hampshire One win against in-form Portsmouth II at Rugby Camp.

The hosts opened the score with an unconverted try.

Portsmouth continued to apply the pressure with a man down and the Pumas were fortunate they could only manage another penalty to go 8-0 ahead.

But at the half-hour mark the Pumas began to build more momentum.

Robbie Connell kicked a penalty to leave Locksheath trailing 8-3 at the break.

On the hour, a cheap penalty for Portsmouth saw them convert a long-range effort to make the score a surprising 11-3.

However, the Pumas then rallied and five minutes later centre Sean Nuttall to scored an unconverted try.

It was the visitors who finished the stronger and wing forward Sam Floyd gathered a ball to beat his defender and crash through a tired defence to score under the posts.

Nick Distefano kicked the conversion and soon afterwards added a penalty.

Pumas Chairman George Winch said: ‘The game had its challenges for us with a high penalty count and lots of mistakes.

‘But the spirit within the team is high and they always believe they can finish strongly.’
