Charlie Martin was frustrated by Kieran McDaid once again as his quest for an English title failed for the second time in four months.

The Team Wiseman member suffered a semi-final National Youth Championships under-69kg male unanimous decision defeat to his Manchester-based opponent.

This was the second time the Purbrook fighter has been beaten by McDaid in a national competition in the space of just a few months.

Martin, 16, was defeated in the NABC final as his bid for an English title fell short.

This time the Team Wiseman youngster was hoping to exact revenge on McDaid on the national stage.

But it was the Jimmy Egans Boxing Academy fighter who had the hold over him in the last four bout.

‘That’s twice now in national finals that Charlie has lost to him,’ said coach Daron Wiseman.

‘I don’t know whether Kieran had his number and knew what he was against or it was just a bad day at the office.

‘He tried his best but there were a few things that he wasn’t doing that he had been in the gym.

‘I do think Charlie could beat him on a good day.

‘But there was nothing that went to plan, everything we planned just did not happen.’

Martin had been due to take on McDaid at the National Youth Championships in Coventry two weeks previous.

Coach Wiseman admitted the two-week delay could have had an impact of Martin’s performance.

‘I think he was looking to get in there too much then got in the ring and didn’t do everything that he wanted to do.

‘I think he peaked his fitness and everything was ready for the final but it then went a bit stale.

‘This was a unanimous loss whereas last year it was a split decision.

‘He lost it fair and square.

‘It was just a typical bad day at the office.’

Meanwhile, Team Wiseman fighter Jack Carter is celebrating after winning the Southern Area title.

The 14-year-old is now three wins away from being crowned a national champion.
