Pain for Dons... Gosport pleased

Skipper Will Bond blamed a lack of runs as the home side reached their target for the loss of six wickets.

‘Our middle order failed to capitalise in the last 15 overs of our innings,’ said Bond.

‘After reaching 150 for three we could only finish on 170 for nine off our 50 overs.

‘We kept on losing too many wickets in quick succession.’

Bond praised James Atkinson and Shane Nkomo who both did well but overall the team were left disappointed.

He added: ‘James Atkinson (60) batted nicely as did our South African opener Shane Nkomo (47).

‘It was very similar to last week, though, with small margins letting us down.’

Gosport Borough inflicted more misery on division three basement side Hursley Park with a thumping 189-run win at Privett Park.

Craig Stares (77) and Ross Harrop (29) gave Borough a perfect start with a 113-run first wicket partnership.

Kiwi Michael Ruffell (80 not out) and Conor Regan (50 not out) then steered Borough to an impressive 292 for five off their 50 overs.

Regan (three for 16), Stares (three for 12) and Dale Patternotte (two for 18) then skittled the visitors out for 103 runs.

Borough vice captain Lee Harrop praised the way his team set about their task.

He said: ‘We have bowled and fielded well so far this season.

‘Though it was comfortable in the end it was the sort of game we might have slipped up in, in previous seasons.

‘Two wins on the bounce will only serve to give us increased confidence.

‘This was a good solid team performance.’

Waterlooville slipped to a four-wicket defeat at Basingstoke & North Hants II despite the heroics of Jon Hudson.

Nick Beadle (44), Tim Jackson (32) and Hudson helped the visitors to a respectable 229 all out after being put into bat.

Hudson continued to shine, taking three wickets for 35 runs but couldn’t prevent the league leaders from getting home.

Havant II avoided defeat for the first time this season with a thrilling tie at Ryde.

The Isle of Wight hosts were bowled out for 229 with Bobby Dyer grabbing four wickets for 39 runs.

Simon Loat (43) and Andrew Galliers (29) provided an excellent platform for the visitors but it wasn’t quite enough to earn a first win.
