Portsmouth's mayor on a mission to inspire by running Great South 5k
THE CITY'S mayor is set to take on a physical challenge as thousands unite for the Great South Run this weekend.
Lord Mayor of PortsmouthÂ Lee Mason will run the Simplyhealth Great South 5k as part of his electoral pledge campaign Small Changes Big Difference.
When he stepped into his role in MayÂ the councillor vowed to encourage the city to move more, eat less and help others '“Â bidding to lose weight himself.Â
And on Saturday, he will join a group of others who have backed his drive and are looking to make a difference in their own lives.Â
Cllr Mason said: '˜IÂ know my own weight has led to health problems and I want to be an inspiration rather than a warning.'
He added: '˜I'm hoping the small changes I'm making to my lifestyle will inspire others, as if I can do them anyone can.'Â
So far for the Small Changes Big Difference campaign, people have lost 190lbs, travelled more thanÂ 9,500 miles and volunteeredÂ more than 1,000 hours.
