Posh boss wary of Pompey striker's threat

The Pompey captain has fired on all cylinders since moving to Fratton Park from Ipswich in the summer.

Pitman, 29, headed home his 12th goal of the campaign in the Blues’ 1-0 win against Southend on Saturday.

McCann is wary of the former Bournemouth forward’s qualities ahead of the Blues’ visit to the Posh tomorrow (7.45pm).

The Peterborough manager is adamant his rearguard must not let Pitman breathe at the London Road Stadium.

McCann told the club’s website: ‘They’re a big club, a sleeping giant really in the lower regions of the league and they have a massive fan base – but they’re in our league.

‘We know they’re a good team and have some good players.

‘We have to be on our guard. They have a centre-forward who is scoring a lot of goals and we need to mark him very tightly.’

Jack Marriott has also been in rampant form for Peterborough this season.

He’s netted 12 goals in all competitions and McCann believes the former Luton Town striker will a handful for Pompey.

‘They will have to mark Jack Marriott very tightly,’ the Posh boss added.

‘Although he missed a couple of chances in our last game (against Blackpool), he’s getting the chances, making the runs and getting in the right areas – the goals will start flying for him again.’
