Praise for Baffins after Vase progress'¦Â Lis is Horndean hero
Steve Leigh praised the character of Baffins Milton Rovers as they came from behind to win 2-1 at Bashley in the first round proper of the FA Vase.
Trailing 1-0 at the break Baffins fought back with an Ashton Leigh penalty and a 75th-minute winner from Robbie Taw.
Manager Leigh was also delighted to see his side turn the tables on their hosts after suffering a league defeat at the same venue earlier in the season.
He said: '˜From the first minute to the last we where the better side and defended well when we needed to.
'˜Our decision making was good but the score doesn't reflect the 80-per-cent possession we had.
'˜We need to make sure we get the rewards our play at times deserves.
'˜Going forward perhaps we need to be a little sharper and be quicker in support.
'˜The result is no more than we deserved. After going a goal down against the run of play, we showed good character to come back and win the game.'
The fightback started early in the second half when Freeman Williams was brought down inside the area.
Ashton Leigh tucked his spot-kick into the bottom corner of the net.
On 72 minutes Taw was on hand to head home after a Tommy Leigh cross.
An Alfie Lis goal enabled Horndean to progress with a 1-0 win at Eversley & California.
Lis struck on the stroke of half-time.
'˜We dominated the first half and the game should have been dead and buried by the break,' said Horndean manager Michael Birmingham.
'˜In the end we had to grind out an ugly win.'
A minute before the interval Connor Kelly got in behind the home defence to deliver a good cross.
The home goalkeeper saved it and Lis knocked in the loose ball.
Pete Stiles was disappointed by Fareham Town's  3-0 defeat at AFC Croydon Athletic.
He said: '˜At 1-0 we had a great chance, missed it, and they broke to score their second. If we had equalised I'm certain we would have won.'
