Senior gold is a big boost for Hopkins

It’s a good competition with some excellent judo players in action.

But Hopkins, who is a multiple world and European masters champion, showed she has still got the edge on her younger rivals.

It was ideal preparation for her bigger targets ahead.

Hopkins said: ‘My coach decided I should take on the youngsters to keep up my training for the masters events.

‘Giving away over 20 years plus to these girls I came away with the gold medal.’

Hopkins was in dominant form throughout the competition with her rivals not causing her too many problems.

She was pleased her performance and will take confidence from it.

‘I had four fights,’ added Hopkins.

‘My first was won on 10 points, then I won my second on submission.

‘The third fight was won with seven points and the last by five points.

‘All in all it was a very good day.’

Last year Hopkins sealed her fifth world masters title in a row.

She also coaches at Gosport as well as working with Great Britain international Sam Potts.

Hopefully in the coming years Gosport will have some more talented judo players making their mark on the international stage and following in the footsteps of Hopkins and Potts.

Ollie Walters has already outlined his potential when he picked up a silver medal at Medway Park, in Kent.
