Walker: Havant mean business this time at Lymington

UNBEATEN Havant are keen to avoid a repeat of last season's disasters as they head for Southern League premier division action against Lymington in the New Forest tomorrow.

This time last season Havant were bowled out at the Lymington Sports Ground for a miserable 50 runs in just over 25 overs.

To make matters worse, Lymington inflicted further grief in the penultimate game of last season by winning at Havant Park.

In another low-scoring affair Lymington were bowled out for 101 but then skittled the home side out for just 97 to win by four runs.

‘Our team will be going there with a fairly clear mindset,’ said Havant captain Ben Walker, who misses the game through work commitments.

‘A lot can be made of past performances but what happened last season won’t be at the forefront of our thinking.

‘Our focus will be on keeping up our winning momentum.’

Andrew Gorvin takes over the captaincy as Havant make a few changes.

Teenage bowler Jack Davies makes his first appearance of the season and Richard Jerry is promoted for his debut after some impressive bowling with the second team and Hampshire seconds.

Havant then host South Wilts in the regional final of the National Club Cup at Havant Park on Sunday (1pm).

Burridge captain Rick Ankers is keen to see his side bounce back to winning ways as they host St Cross Symondians.

A depleted Burridge crashed to their first defeat of the summer against a powerful South Wilts outfit in their last game.

‘We had five first-choice batsmen missing so there was always a chance it might happen,’ said Ankers.

‘It meant we didn’t have our usual strength in depth with our batting.

‘We had our usual bowling attack and had them on the rack at 115 for nine.

‘They managed to get over 200 runs and we collapsed to 93 all out.

‘It is frustrating and makes it important that we come back with a win against St Cross.’

Hampshire Academy entertain New Milton after achieving a highly-encouraging winning draw at Lymington.

Jake Goodwin hit an impressive 129, which included 17 fours and three sixes, as the Academy posted 228 for nine.

Joe Weatherly took three wickets for 43 but the visitors narrowly failed to get over the line.
