White's dramatic over is big lift for Burridge

Burridge were staring defeat in the face as their opponents needed just two runs off the final over with four wickets in hand.

But White saved the day with a three-wicket maiden.

‘It was an unbelievable last over because it looked like it was going to be a walk in the park for Bashley,’ said Burridge vice-captain Dan Hewitt.

‘There was no pressure on him at the start because no-one was expecting to win.

‘It was as the over progressed that pressure started to build and he stood up to the test.

‘He bowls with a good shape and swings the ball away.

‘Thankfully he stood up for the team in our hour of need.

‘Bashley got the winning draw courtesy of facing less balls but it could easily have been a loss for us.

‘We also had opportunities during the game to win it.

‘Bashley, though, are a very experienced side and know how to play timed cricket well.’

With the odds stacked against them the ball was thrown to Sullivan for the final over.

Bashley’s Chris Ridley, who was in and set, played and missed the first two deliveries outside off stump.

Ridley was gone next ball when he spooned a catch up to Joe Collings-Wells at square leg.

Hewitt felt that opened up an opportunity for Burridge.

‘That suddenly gave us some hope,’ he added.

The next ball produced an edge and a catch behind by wicket-keeper Will Steward as Bashley lost their eighth wicket.

Suddenly the pressure was on for both teams with a leg bye off the fifth ball bringing the scores level.

White finished the game in style by clean bowling Josh Digby.

Earlier Burridge had got themselves into difficulties after winning the toss and opting to bat.

They were in big trouble at 89 for six but the experienced Lee Savident (58) set about rebuilding the innings.

He was helped by an explosive late cameo from Dan Stancliffe, as his 59 included four fours and three sixes in an impressive contribution.

‘Two of the sixes were huge,’ added Hewitt.

Burridge were eventually bowled out for 190 which didn’t look enough as the visitors reached 80 for the loss of two wickets.

Savident slowed their progress by taking a couple of wickets but when Bashley needed just 11 runs off the last three overs it looked bleak for Burridge.

Then came White’s grandstand finish to snatch Burridge from the jaws of defeat.
