Award-winning ceramicist in solo Portsmouth exhibition

Making Space, a craft charity based in Havant and Aspex Gallery in Portsmouth, have both set up '˜inspiring' events which shine a spotlight on Tessa Eastman and her ceramic artworks.

Tessa creates unique sculptures from clay using various hand-building techniques. Excited by natural phenomena, which transports her away from the mundane, she is intrigued by regular and repetitive sequences found in organisms.

She trained at The Royal College of Art and said: '˜I aim for my forms to be beautiful in a bizarre manner so as to aid the appreciation of life's absurdities where things don't always make sense.'

In 2016 Aspex launched an open-call in association with Making Space. Eleven makers were selected for the show, of which Tessa was one, who was later announced the winner.

She will take the main stage with a solo exhibition at Aspex, in Gunwharf Quays, which will run from September 19'“October 18.

Making Space is also hosting a one-off special talk event with Tessa on September 22 with its director Lynne Dick.
