PMT was founded by Simon Gilson and Terry Hope in 1991, with the intention of creating a ‘truly rock ‘n’ roll environment’. They opened their first store in Southend, and have since gone on to open 14 ‘houses of rock’ across the UK, including the store on Fitzherbert Spur in Portsmouth.

Co-founder Simon said: ‘We started with a 1,000sq ft, as sixteen-year-old, long-haired rockers and a mass of front and used our association with just about every musician for miles around to build a business from nothing.

‘Now, we are the largest musical instrument retailer in the UK with 14 branches and counting, over 200,000 square foot of retail space and 170 staff.’
