Radio Solent listeners moved by death of presenter's dog

Breakfast show presenter Julian Clegg moved Radio Solent listeners today as he told of the death of his dog.

Julian’s voice came close to cracking as he revealed his sad news, saying: ‘I miss him terribly.’

The popular broadcaster said Toby, his companion for 13 years, had died last Friday following liver failure.

Radio Solent listeners rang and texted to offer their sympathy as they heard Julian telling how just three weeks ago, Toby had been happy on a family holiday.

Julian showed fellow members of the breakfast show team pictures of his dog on the ‘Night Manager’ beach in Majorca and under an olive tree.

And he added that he was also concerned for his other dog, Teddy, who today was at home alone for the first time.

When a listener rang the station and told Julian on air that she hoped Teddy would help him through his sadness, Julian replied: ‘That is lovely, thank you so much. Don’t say any more - I might cry.’
