The trio of female singers performed songs including Why Do Fools Fall In Love, Jimmy Mack and Dancing in the Street. While talented individually, the women were at their best when singing in harmony. The Love Supremes then turned backing singers as Roy G Hemmings took to the stage. A former member of the Drifters, Hemmings performed with them for 14 years.

It’s undoubtedly this experience that has made him the showman he is today, oozing stage presence.

His vocals were sensational with a wonderful tone and never failing to hit the high notes when required.

Unsurprisingly, the audience were treated to several Drifters tracks including Under the Boardwalk and Saturday Night at the Movies before the interval.

The second half was non-stop Motown classics, accompanied by the Dictionary of Soul band that was fantastic all night. The number of people dancing in the aisles grew steadily throughout the evening, with most on their feet for the encore of Higher and Higher.

This Valentine’s Day weekend, I fell in love with Motown, thanks to Roy G Hemmings and the Love Supremes.
