REVIEW: Let It Be, Mayflower, Southampton

The show, which has played to audiences in the West End and on Broadway, is packed with more than 40 songs from the Fab Four.

Opening with I Saw Her Standing There, the impersonators charted the band’s remarkable rise to fame.

The first half rattled through the hits with Can’t Buy Me Love, Help! and Eleanor Rigby proving particularly popular.

Twist and Shout had the vast majority of the crowd on their feet.

The second half highlights included Come Together and a fantastic guitar solo from Paul Mannion as George during While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

All four of the performers were undoubtedly talented.

Stand-in Iain Hornal was particularly impressive as Paul McCartney, both vocally and in terms of his uncanny mannerisms. However, Beatles’ fans will note he failed to play the guitar left-handed like the man himself.

The encore was infectious with the hit songs Let It Be, Get Back and of course, Hey Jude.

Essentially, this is a top quality tribute act with a big budget and impressive set to match. The psychedelic lighting during the Sgt Pepper section was fantastic.

Excusing the occasional dodgy wig and very occasional dodgy accent, this is a must-see for all Beatles’ fans.
