Regular compere Dinga was nowhere to be seen, however, John Newton more than ably stepped up.

With great audience interaction, the host was a hit all night, even if he was from Chatham ‘like crème brulee, it’s better once it’s been torched!’

First up was Paul Thorne. The bald-headed comic compared himself to a weird combination of Sinead O’Connor and Gary Glitter in a hormonal disaster.

While this self-deprecating humour was amusing, his audience interaction was even better – I’m so relieved I wasn’t in the front row!

One punter was fully prepared though, when asked what he did for a living he replied with a less-than-savoury profession to much laughter.

Next up was Bradford-born Johnny Pelham. With his curly brown locks, lime green jumper and spectacles, the self-confessed oddball wouldn’t have looked out of place in the Big Bang Theory. With tales of smoking weed and his prom night sexual attraction, his set was equally enjoyable.

Finally, the headline act was Stuart Goldsmith. The comic spoke about recently becoming a father, weaving in tales of magic mushrooms and Gandalf.

This, along with anecdotes about Airbnb, human Tetris on the London Underground and being heckled by someone with Tourette’s made for a hilarious end to the evening.
