Southsea Fest to return bigger and better than before

The multi-venue music festival will be marking its 10th anniversary on Saturday October 1 by expanding its capacity to 6,000 people.

More than 100 acts are set to perform across a whopping 20 venues.

And for the first time the day-long event will include The Pyramids Centre.

‘Previously, all the venues have been centred around Albert Road and Elm Grove.

For the £20 ticket price, music-lovers get a wristband giving access to all the venues.

Festival founder Josie Curtis said: ‘We’re back.

‘After an amazing year in 2014, with performances from Ed Harcourt and Pulled Apart By Horses among other highlights, we said we’d be back – and here we are.

‘We took the step back in 2015 so we could work on developing the event, and so we’re happy to not just be back, but to be bigger than we ever were before.

‘We’ll be taking over nearly twice as many venues and live spaces across the town and working on building our undoubtedly biggest ever line-up which we’ll unveil soon.

‘It’s the same independent, DIY spirit and soul of Southsea Fest though.

‘The heart is the same, and that was always important to us as we looked to expand.’

The organisers pride themselves on mixing local acts with up-and-coming touring acts – with several big names getting an early break at Southsea Fest.

‘Our focus is still on finding the best underground and breaking talent,’ added Josie, ‘and adding to our already huge pool of billed acts that has included Bastille, Drenge, Dry The River, and Django Django over the years.

‘Local acts and promoters will also remain at the forefront of what we’re about, and plan to work with a lot of the people who have made this the festival is has been over the last decade. We’re very proud to be in Portsmouth and Southsea. Once a sailor, always a sailor.’
