While there have been sad times for our music scene this summer, there is no doubt that the Portsmouth scene is growing and improving every year with forward thinking promoters expanding their ambitions with exciting, fresh musicians.
I could think of nothing better to do this weekend than to enjoy one of the biggest festivals on the south coast, right here: Victorious. While it’s easy to get caught up in headliners such as The Prodigy, The Libertines and Paloma Faith, don’t forget the many stages run by our locals including the funk juggernaut Beats and Swing, the ambitious AMP Stage (presented by Havant and South Downs College), Soul Circus and live comedy with PM Promotions. You can even catch me DJing disco and house under the name Broken Beats at the AMP Stage on Saturday at midday! Visit victoriousfestival.co.uk for your last chance to grab tickets.
Wherever you party this weekend, please stay safe, party responsibly and keep an eye out for your friends and others.
Tonight after Victorious, Sin! At The Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road is a great choice for an after party as they present their usual eclectic mix of pop music from across the eras.
Entry is free as usual from 11pm until 2.30am. More details at wedgewood-rooms.co.uk.
On Sunday, house/disco promoters Civilisation of The Rough present COR Legends at the Lord John Russell on Albert Road with Justin Robertson; a favourite among the fellas that run COR. It takes place from 8pm until 2.30am which also makes it another ideal after party spot! Only 160 tickets are available for the event. Tickets cost £10, more at cordisco.co.uk.
Monday, Delight present their 18 Year Reunion at The Astoria on Guildhall Walk, including special guest DJs Rob Troudador, Carl Lemon, Matt Random and Tommy Leigh. Entry is £4 from 10pm until 2am with more details at facebook.com.
Finally, next Thursday, Lord John Russell present Live Hip-Hop from 7.30pm until 1am with Blessed, Prospects, OJ & Apex, DJ Joey Kong and DJ Supernova. Entry is free, more details at facebook.com.
