The ship was named after Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan '“ a British admiral who defeated the Dutch fleet at the Battle of Camperdown on 11 October 1797.Â

HMS Duncan was ordered in December 2000, was laid down on January 26, 2007, and launched on October 11, 2010 '“Â 213 years after the Battle of Camperdown.Â

HMS Duncan was built at BAE Naval Ship yards in Govan and Scotstoun on the River Clyde, in Scotland, with construction beginning in 2006.Â

What missions has HMS Duncan taken part in?Â
She left Portsmouth in March 2015 on her maiden deployment to the Mediterranean and Middle East.
In July 2015 HMS Duncan joined up with the U.S. Navy Carrier Strike Group Twelve to strike the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant.
She was one of several Royal Navy vessels to be selected for Exercise Griffin Strike '“Â a join exercise with the French Navy.Â

Hide AdHMS Duncan was dispatched by the Ministry of Defence to intercept and '˜man-mark' a fleet of Russian Navy vessels, including their flagship Admiral Kuznetsov, as they sailed through the English Channel on their way to Syria.Â
In June 2017, she sailed sailed from Portsmouth to assume the role of flagship of NATO Standing Maritime Naval Group 2 (SNMG2), operating in the Black Sea and the Mediterranean.
And again in 2018 Duncan continued her NATO deployment visiting Mediterranean and Black Sea ports such as ConstanÈ›a, Souda Bay, and Split, returning to Portsmouth on 13 July 2018 '“ which is when the filming for Warship: All At Sea took place.Â
