Chipper: I made a new friend in the Shetland Islands

Greetings Chipsters everywhere. This week I went on my first aeroplane flight. I visited the Shetland Islands, and, get this, I went by myself!

Don’t ask how I persuaded mum to let me go – it wasn’t easy. But there were guided activity trips led and organised by adults and we were well looked after.

There were children there from all different parts of the country. I was on my best behaviour representing the fine area of Dunyelping.

The main reason I wanted to go was because I’d heard about a lovely cow named Tamara who lived at the Shetland Museum.

She tells you all about the history of the town named Lerwick, where the museum is. Tamara is a cracking name as it is, so I knew she would be lovely.

Off we went on a tour of the area in our big group. I, of course, was at the front with the leaders and Tamara, and before I knew it we were woofing and mooing to our hearts’ content.

She told me that Shetland people used to live on small farms called crofts, they had to grow and make their own food as there were no supermarkets.

People had to make their own bread and biscuits, can you believe it? I couldn’t go without my doggy biscuit treats and if I had to make them myself, judging by my previous baking experiences, I’d be out of luck.

Tamara said she would come and visit me in Dunyelping soon – so there we have it, I’ve made another friend!

This week, three of my Chipsters have won the latest prize in my brilliant competition.

The winners are:

Ophelia Cleugh (5057)

Martha Henderson (5082) and

Bryony Reid (2054)

Congratulations to all three of you.
