Chipper: On your marks for a day of Olympic fun

Greetings Chipsters everywhere.

Tuesday, 2nd August 2016, 6:00 am

I expect most of you will already be aware that the Olympics begin on Friday.

This sporting extravaganza runs until August 21 and billions of people all around the world will tune in to watch thousands of amazing athletes showing off their talents in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In light of this, it won’t come as a surprise to you Chipsters that I decided to hold my own mini-olympics, here at Dunyelping.

I won’t blow my own trumpet, though – it’s not as big as it sounds. But we did manage to round up about 30 people in the village to take part, which was great.

There were five rounds, judo, sailing, swimming, diving and tennis.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t pick water-based activities because I can swim really well. Nevertheless, I still played fair and didn’t cheat.

We all competed on our own and in teams, for the sailing round.

Although I came first in the diving and swimming round, I didn’t actually win overall, but I wasn’t bothered at all. It’s the taking part and having fun that counts. It was lovely to see our community come together for a day of fun, games and laughter.

Are you going to be taking part in any Olympic-themed events? Why don’t you write to me and let me know. My address is on the right hand side of the page.

Why not colour this picture of the Olympic torch and send it to me, so I can show everyone.

Chip chip for now. Your old friend Chipper.

Competition winners: This week, three lucky Chipsters have won the latest prize in my fabulous competition. My amazing winners are Cate Dawkins (5010),

Katie Higgs (5118) and Heather Bryant (1075).

Congratulations to all three of you. You have each won yourselves a family ticket to Marwell Zoo.

If you didn’t win this time, it doesn’t matter. On my page in the newspaper there’s another competition for you to enter.
