A college is opening its doors to the community to celebrate a fantastic year of success.

Fareham College is holding a summer fair on Saturday, June 23.

The event is being held to mark an incredible year of achievement, including being named FE College of the Year by the Times Educational Supplement (TES) and judged outstanding by Ofsted.

Visitors will be able to enjoy a barbecue, stalls, entertainment and demonstrations.

Deputy principal Andrew Kaye said: “We are delighted to welcome the local community to join us at our summer fair on June 23 to celebrate the college’s recent successes.

“As well as a range of entertainment and activities for all ages, we look forward to providing details about the wide range of training options available including apprenticeships, full time and part time courses, at what has been judged to be the UK’s best college.”

Eight of the highest performing FE colleges in the country were shortlisted for the TES award but Fareham came out on top.

At the awards evening, hosted by comedian Alan Davies, the judges praised the college’s ‘innovative approach to the curriculum and to engaging with industry in a growing area’.

They also commented on the first-class teaching facilities, saying Fareham had ‘added to the educational provision in the area’.

Speaking at the time, principal Nigel Duncan said: “We’re thrilled to win this award. This has been an amazing few months for us.

“Ofsted ranked us outstanding, the prime minister paid tribute to our hard work and now we have been named FE College of the Year by TES.

“As principal, I’m delighted to accept this award but I know it wouldn’t have been possible without the inspired teaching and tireless enthusiasm of all our staff. This is also an award for them.”

The Ofsted report, published at the end of last year, rated the college outstanding overall, as well as outstanding for almost every individual assessment area, including apprenticeships.

Students and apprentices make very good progress from their starting points, in achieving their qualifications, and in gaining excellent technical and professional skills,” said the report.

“The college’s modern and well-equipped centre of excellence in engineering, manufacturing and advanced skills training provides an excellent training environment that reflects the highest commercial standards.”

Fareham College is still accepting applicants for courses starting in September.

Whether you are looking for full or part-time study or apprenticeships, why not head down to the Summer Fair on June 23 to find out how you could become a part of this award-winning college.
