Police called to '˜remove bed' from A27 as strong winds cause traffic chaos

Motorists have faced an unusual obstacle on the A27 this afternoon - a double divan bed.

Police officers are reported to be on their way to the Havant bypass to remove the bed from the southbound carriageway at the junction to the A2030 Eastern Road.

It is believed the bed was blown from a vehicle due to strong winds.

Traffic is moving as normal but drivers have been warned to take care on approach.

Earlier the Met Office issued a weather warning for high winds, which covers the south east area - including Portsmouth.

Forecasters are predicting wind speeds of up to 60mph.

An earlier crash was also reported on the A27 Chichester Bypass near the junction to the A286 Stockbridge Road.
