THIS WEEK IN 1989: Farlington triplets go home in style

Nine days, 100 nappies and 225 feeds after they were born, Farlington triplets purred home with their mum and dad in a white Rolls-Royce.

Thanks to the generosity of a Portsmouth hire car company, the threesome was able to ride in one of the smartest cars on the road.

The test-tube trio – Andrew, Samantha and Danielle Wilkinson – may not have appreciated their surroundings but their parents certainly did.

Nurses and mums-to-be gazed out of the windows at St Mary’s Hospital, Milton, to wave farewell to Sheila and Nigel Wilkinson, the triplets and Mrs Wilkinson’s mother, Barbara Martin.

Mrs Wilkinson had invitro fertilisation to become pregnant, but both she and her husband were shocked when they discovered she was having triplets.
