This recent picture of a bus crossing Fratton Bridge in 1981 brought back happy memories for bus driver Mark Barnett.

His wife Hayley wrote to me saying he remembers clearly driving this very bus – 192 on route 10.

She says: ‘He started driving corporation buses in 1980 and was the youngest driver on the company at the time that North End depot closed, so was chosen to be the driver of the last bus into the depot, something he is very proud of.

‘Mark has continued as a driver and currently works for Stagecoach.

‘He is now in his 38th year in the bus industry.’
