Southsea Greenhouse

Volunteers boarded a minibus for the annual Greenhouse awayday.

Passing the beautiful autumnal trees along the A3 (the especially vibrant leaf colours this year are caused by high sugar content thanks to the weather), we headed for the Sustainability Centre near East Meon.

After coffee in its café we toured the 55-acre site admiring the plantings, woodlands and water features, all managed in a nature-friendly environment.

We then went to Petersfield for lunch at The Drum, and a visit to the 16th century physic garden where fruit trees and flowering plants grow alongside traditional medicinal herbs. This is a beautiful, relaxing space in the bustling town centre.

Today, why not head to Wimbledon Park, Southsea, for its community day and see the beautiful new willow dome.
