Anger after authority refuses to reverse decision to close children's centres

PLANS to close 43 children's centres in Hampshire will still go ahead.

Hampshire County Council’s children and young people select committee yesterday refused to back down on an earlier decision to close 43 of the county’s 54 children’s centres to save £8.5m.

Centres in Fareham, Gosport and Havant will be among those affected.

Catherine Ovenden, who campaigned against the plans, said: ‘These centres have been a lifeline, especially to women.’
