Millions marvel at the drumming skills of Gosport Royal Marine musician Ashley

A TEENAGE Royal Marines drummer played live to a TV audience of millions '“ just two weeks into his training.

Ashley Forshaw, 17, of Gosport, wowed millions of BBC Breakfast viewers with a 30-second drumming display.

He appeared to publicise BBC’s new Sea Cities series, which includes a feature on the Royal Marines School of Music in Portsmouth.

The former Brune Park Community College pupil is one of the recruits featured in the documentary, broadcast on Thursdays on BBC 2.

He said: ‘Playing live was nerve-wracking but the presenters and all of the studio team made me feel at ease. I was pleased with how it went – once I started the nerves seemed to go away.’

Previously, Ashley was part of HMS Collingwood and later HMS Sultan volunteer bands.
