Digger gets stuck in mud at Langstone Harbour

The excavator became stuck this morning while working along the Langstone Harbour shoreline.

It started to sink and toppled over. No-one was hurt.

A spokesman from Portsmouth City Council said: ‘We can confirm that one of the excavator vehicles working on the coastal defences at Langstone Harbour has become stuck in the mud along the shoreline.

‘There are no environmental issues that we are currently aware of, and the contractors have well-rehearsed procedures in place to prevent the possibility of pollution.

‘We hope to have the vehicle back onto dry land within the next few hours, though this obviously depends on the tide.’
