A SERIES of workshops are helping patients with their cardiac rehabilitation.
In the last five years, Queen Alexandra Hospital’s cardiology department has been running a series of workshops for people who have suffered a heart attack or are recovering from cardiac surgery.
The patient can choose between an education and exercise rehabilitation or education workshops.
Patients are asked to attend the three-hour sessions after treatment and then have the chance to follow up with sessions of exercise.
They give patients the opportunity to discuss their experience as well as getting information about heart disease, risk factors, lifestyle changes and medication.
Susan King, cardiac rehabilitation nurse, said: ‘The courses are working very well for Portsmouth patients.
‘It allows us to help patients make healthy choices, thereby living a healthier lifestyle and reducing the risk of future heart problems.’
