POLICE say manslaughter charges will not be brought over the death of a father of 10 who fell 30ft in an industrial accident.
Lindsay Campbell, 66, from Cunningham Road, Waterlooville, fell while running cabling along the roof of the South Coast Skips unit, in the Rudford
Industrial Estate, West Sussex, in July.
An investigation was launched by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex major crime team, aided by inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive.
Sussex Police said manslaughter by gross negligence charges will not be brought against four men – a 62-year-old from Wickham, a 26-year-old from Fareham, a 47-year-old from Birdham, near Chichester, and a 50-year-old from Bognor Regis.
A police spokesman said that following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service it was decided there was insufficient evidence to initiate criminal proceedings for manslaughter.
But officers are considering prosecutions for offences under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Mr Campbell’s family have been informed of the decision.
