Residents invited to celebrate mayor's milestone birthday

THE Mayor of Havant Cllr Faith Ponsonby will mark her 75th birthday on Thursday with a public celebration.

The free event will be held at the Public Service Plaza in Havant on Thursday between midday and 4.30pm.

She hopes lots of senior citizens living in the borough will join her for the milestone.

Angel Radio will provide music for people to dance to and teas will be served by the Fourteas Tea Rooms from West Street in Havant.

A room will be set aside for demonstrations of exercises and therapies available.

A raffle will be held with all proceeds going to Cllr Ponsonby’s chosen charities Sands, which helps people through the trauma of stillbirth and neonatal deaths, youth counselling service Off the Record and the St Faith’s Church Big Build Appeal.

Many local organisations and community projects will support the event, including Churchill Retirement Homes, Methodist Homes for the Aged and Community First,

Groups like U3A, Walking Football and the Havant Men’s Shed will be there to show visitors what services are available to help people keep mentally and physically active in their retirement years.

Cllr Ponsonby said: ‘I hope this will become an annual event.

‘There are so many things available for people to join in now, where they can make friends, and keep fit and healthy.

‘I am sure we will all have lots of fun next Thursday.’

A return shuttle bus will be running between Havant bus station and the Plaza at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
