SCOUTS were given the chance to meet television presenters Bear Grylls and Steve Backshall at an awards ceremony.

Eleven young people from Fareham, Gosport and the Havant area were invited to Windsor Castle for the The Queen’s Scout Award.

Prince Michael of Kent handed out the achievements to the Scouts, which are given for outstanding personal achievement.

The young people must complete a range of challenges from working in the community to completing an expedition.

One of the Scouts honoured was Alix Nichols from Fareham.

The 17-year-old said: ‘During my award achievements, I was able to boost my confidence and try out yacht sailing in a new group of friends.

‘Travelling to Uganda allowed me to experience a new culture while helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves.

‘The challenge has inspired me to volunteer aboard again.’
